Introducing the Astronomy Dataverse

Monday, April 2, 2012, 11:45am to 1:00pm

Phillips Auditorium, Cambridge, MA

The Seamless Astronomy team at the CfA invites you to an "Introduction to the Astronomy Dataverse" next Monday,  April 2, 2012 at 11:45am in Phillips Auditorium.

A "Dataverse" is a web based platform for publishing, citing and preserving your data; it gives you control for what data you release when and it renders your data discoverable to other search tools and thus reusable by other astronomers. Perhaps most critically, it allows this reuse to be tracked via citation to your published data.  Through a collaboration with the Harvard IQSS and Harvard Libraries, our team is building a Dataverse for Harvard/Smithsonian CfA scientists.  This Monday's event is our first opportunity to tell you about the progress of this project.

We will be providing a light (likely pizza) lunch starting at 11:45amAfter the lunch we will give you a short 30 minute overview of the Astronomy Dataverse project, including the team, scope and short term goals. We will then hold a question and answer panel for you to find out more about this project.
